Bright greens and blues are a little muted, but the overall impression is quite pleasing. This is particularly visible along the eaves of the central dormer from the house, and along the green flower stem against the black background. To the right of the arrow buttons, this very large button starts the printing process when printing from a memory card. This can be changed with the up and down arrow keys from one to 50 prints. Input allows you to choose between four options for image data transfer: The number 1 represents the most negative adjustment and the number 5 is the dihital positive adjustment.

Olympus has made a priority of enabling home users to enjoy photo quality and has achieved the consumer price range by using innovative design for every aspect of the printer. The printer’s orientation is slightly different from a standard ink-jet model, in that the paper cassette feeds from the top, sending the paper down through the printer, where the thermal heads transfer each dye color cyan, magenta, and yellow in a separate pass.
The only button we missed was a Cancel button to back out of menu options. Connect the printer to the computer with either a parallel or USB cable the digiyal cable must be connected to the printer before turning on the computerthen turn the printer’s Mode dial to Input. If your image has already been cropped in DPOF, the printer will automatically set its own crop marks.
This view clearly shows the extent to which the P’s color gamut exceeds that of a commercial-grade printing press. Overall, we felt that the P had a surprisingly broad gamut, particularly relative ca,edia inkjets. Printing time includes overcoat layer.
Olympus has led the competition sinceachieving home printing without a PC with the CAMEDIA series and launching a dye-sublimation processing printer that produces photo quality on A6 size paper. In the p-4000 of the P, it appears that Olympus is counting as “print time” only the time that the print engine spends actually laying down color on the paper.
Standard Mode Standard mode prints one or more images on a single page up to 16 images on A4 paper, and up to six images on A5. Which generally have print times measured in many minutes in their highest-quality printing modes. Photo paper, photo stickers. Index Mode The Index mode allows you to print a complete thumbnail index page of all the images saved on a memory card.

You can select from images already stored in the P’s memory, download additional images from the Utilities CD provided with the printer, or use one of your own images once it’s been processed and registered through the Background Setup feature.

As noted, the P seemed to hold very true to this heritage, producing prints with beautiful tonal gradation, and particularly delicate renderings of pastels and shades of off-white.
Select either the Parallel or USB option. Located on the far left side of the operation panel, this dial selects the printing cplor, as well as various camera settings modes.
Then again though, given that the P sells for perhaps a third the price of competing units, we’re probably lucky to have an LCD panel of any sort. In each panel of the table, we compare the range of color the P can reproduce with the range camsdia another device.

They navigate through printer settings menus and options. Colored-in area is color space of P For this test, it was scaled down to 31 megabytes, a good bit more resolution than the printer itself provides. To its credit though, while P doesn’t produce blacks as deep as those from some inkjet printers, it does seem to carry more color information in them. When the Standard setting is selected on the Mode dial, the first selected image appears on the preview screen.
This is because dye-sub printers use an entire “page” of their ribbon for each print, regardless of whether they’re just printing a few words of printed type or a full photograph.
This is probably not a common workflow though: The freeware Rotater program will let you view the gamut map interactively. The illustration below shows a dkgital of the P’s gamut map in Yxy color cklor space onto a two-dimensional xy color plane.
